Premium Vehicle Light Tinting

Enhance Style, Protect Comfort, Drive in Confidence.

Why Choose Tints for your Vehicles Lights?

Light tinting is a subtle way to upgrade your car’s style while still keeping functionality. Here’s why it’s a popular choice:

✅ Sleek, Custom Look – Smoked or lightly tinted headlights/taillights instantly give your car a sharper, more premium appearance.

✅ Protection – The tint film adds a protective layer against stone chips, scratches, and UV fading.

✅ Variety of Shades – From light smoke to darker finishes, you can choose a tint level that matches your vehicle’s style.

✅ Non-Permanent Upgrade – Films can be removed if you decide to return to the factory look or change style later.

✅ Cost-Effective Styling – A quick way to transform the aesthetics of your vehicle without breaking the bank.

Clear Protection / PPF

Headlight PPF is a clear, durable film applied to your headlights to protect them from stone chips, scratches, UV fading, and everyday wear. It helps maintain clarity, prevents costly damage, and keeps your headlights looking newer for longer.

Coloured Yellow

Yellow tint gives headlights a distinctive motorsport-inspired look while improving visibility in poor weather conditions. It also adds protection against chips, scratches, and UV fading.

Light / Medium Smoke Tint

Legal Information / Tint Guidelines.

UK Light Tinting Regulations and Legal Requirements

1. Headlight & Taillight Tinting Limits

  • Tinting up to 50 % (i.e., not reducing light output by more than half) is generally permitted in the UK. Going darker than this is considered illegal.

  • The tinted light must retain its original colour:

    • Headlights: remain white or yellow

    • Taillights: remain red

    • Altering these colours is illegal and may result in fines.

2. Performance & Visibility

  • Tinting within legal limits should still allow sufficient visibility at night and keep your lights visible to others.

  • Using poor-quality or overly dark film can compromise light clarity, reduce effectiveness, and risk law enforcement issues or safety concerns.

3. Lack of Specific Fixed Law

  • There’s no single statute in the UK precisely defining light tint legality beyond the visibility requirement. The key is whether the output brightness remains sufficient.

  • However, most professionals and installers apply the 50 % tint threshold to stay safe.

4. Window Tinting Context (Not for Lights, but Related)

  • For vehicle windows, front windscreens must allow at least 75 % VLT, front side windows at least 70 % VLT, while rear windows have no restrictions.

  • Enforcement happens via roadside checks using photometers; MOTs typically do not assess tints.

  • Breaking these rules can lead to fines, penalty points, and prohibition notices.

Vehicle Tint FAQ'S

Is light tinting legal in the UK?

Yes – as long as the tint doesn’t reduce your headlight/taillight output by more than 50% and the lights remain their original legal colour (white/yellow for headlights, red for taillights).

Will tinting my lights affect MOT?

If the film makes your lights too dim or changes their colour, your vehicle may fail its MOT. At Last Detailers, we only install road-safe tints that stay within MOT standards.

Does tinting reduce visibility at night?

A light smoke tint has minimal impact on visibility. However, darker tints can reduce brightness and make night driving harder. That’s why we recommend light to medium shades for daily drivers.

Can I remove the tint later?

Yes – light tint films are non-permanent and can be safely removed without damaging your headlights or taillights.

What’s the difference between light, medium, and dark smoke?

  • Light Smoke: Subtle, stylish, legal, with minimal effect on light output.

  • Medium Smoke: More noticeable, still safe when applied correctly.

  • Dark Smoke: Bold “blacked-out” look, best for taillights or show cars

Does tint protect my lights?

Yes – the film acts as a barrier against UV rays, stone chips, scratches, and fading, helping your lights stay clearer for longer.

How long does light tinting last?

With professional installation and quality films, light tints can last 3–5 years or more, depending on maintenance and driving conditions.
